Foxes are a serious threat to both farm animals and native wildlife in the Gunning district. Since 2015, Gunning District Landcare has coordinated twice-yearly fox baiting programs across private properties, laying around 8,000 baits annually in partnership with South East Local Land Services.
Landholders complete training to safely and ethically use 1080 baits, and join local baiting groups to ensure large-scale, effective control. This model, first pioneered by Jerrawa Creek Landcare, has become a state-wide success story in pest management and is now part of a broader Local Land Services initiative; Feral Fighters.
